Abstract: | The border region of northeastern Slovakia was intensely marked by fighting during the First and Second World Wars. Even today, there are a large number of military forms in this area, which have a memorable and educational significance. It is a region that is undersized in terms of production and industry. On the other hand, it has huge potential for the development of sustainable tourism. It is a unique combination of preserved natural landscape, historical (mostly military) monuments and elements of material and spiritual culture of local Ruthenians. The aim of this paper is to point out the potential of the studied region in the context of sustainable tourism. At the end of the article are also specific suggestions for improvement, which are based on the findings. Part of the implementation of the paper was also field research focused on verifying the real state and photo documentation. |
